Waiting for all this to turn into the whole "no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, the name of the beast, or the number of his name."
Microtransactions are evil, this nft shit is the beast lol

Gaming integration with blockchains, earning crypto and NFTs is literally Ready Player one and stuff similar. Where you can make a career in a game, and actually create gear/content and sell it, a true player driven economy

Sounds about right. Ubisoft is going to need to pay its players

pretty sure ubisoft will only use nft's to make their in-app-purchases tradeable, while taking a few percent everytime someone sells something

Gamers have been pretty oppressed for a while. We're apart of the problem…. But I can't stop mining

I strongly disagree with your last references. Firstly you mention Diablo 3 and the real money auction house being an abysmal failure. Actually the game was a failure because it was an almighty pile of crap compared to D2. Secondly this was finally a way for certain parts of the community the ability to trade items for money in a safe manner. Far better than using something like d2jsp where scams weren't exactly unknown. Look at d3 now and the playerbase, sure it's an old game, but had rmah still existed and there was a regular recycle of items in rmah, that would generate some form of revenue in the long run to pay for development. With 0 revenue what is the incentive for a company to develop a game for free?
Another point and it depends on if you ever played magic the gathering the card game when it came out in the mid 90's. These were collectable and tradable card games which you psyically owned the cards you purchased (similar to old school games as you mentioned earlier). Because you own the said card if you were lucky to own a black lotus you're laughing all the way to the bank now. Fast forward to 2021 however and if you try to find a digital equivilant, there is nothing. Hearthstone, Runeterra, mtg:online all state you do not own any of the digit assets in their games, you can not trade nor sell them. Yet the mechanic of the original mtg card game where you buy booster packs with each pack having a percentage chance to get ultrade rare cards still remain. I would much rather NFT's were implemented in these type of games so I know that I own those digital cards outright and I can do whatever I want.

My last "good" experience with a game was destiny 1, but that quickly soured as soon as Activision showed bungo how to milk thier playerbase. Game has gone to shit now.

play to earn sounds great but the elephant in the room is the IRS with its hand in our pockets. tax, tax, tax

Blockchain games are the future! The problem is the current and soon to be released ones are a bit of a cashgrab without much fun gameplay. Even if the game isnt 'play to earn' the game can still have 'true ownership' of in game assets such as skins which would add so much to gaming and is very pro consumer. You own your in game items and not the publisher!

In regards to your statement about no really good game releases "in soooo long", I'll have to respectfully disagree, all you need to do is venture outside of the big-budget/"AAA" and try and look around for some hidden gems in the indie/mid-budget scene to counter that argument. Otherwise, excellent video explaining the history of gaming for the younger folks who never got to experience the N64/GameCube/Xbox 360 era (in my opinion the game golden era of gaming because I'm sort of a young boomer) before we started getting micro transactions and battle passes shoved down our throats

NOOOO NOT UBISOFT they can't even get their own shit in track why do they wanna ruin NFT games..

Totally agree with everything you said i to have been gaming since NES. Cant remember the last good video game… Maybe Bloodborne or Dark souls, Horizon Zero Dawn and the most recent God of war was OK. Last good PC game…. cannot remember.

Totally agreed, implementation of NFTs into gaming is a great idea but correct implementation is unlikely to occur without a great deal of trial and error.

I just want to add; a lot of game devs stopped playing games because now the magic is spoiled. You'd be looking at reflections, their art or mechanics of shit

I think it depends on how it is implemented really. Games like online Magic the Gathering would be great as blockchain games. Or to be able to allow 1 NFT/item to be used in multiple games across multiple studios/publishers. It will be interesting to see how creative developers get with this tech.

I agree that there hasn’t been a good video game that’s captured me in probably 5-7 years. Honestly I’m still happy playing Sky Rim on my switch and I’ve purchased it for every system.

I liked Diablo 3, i did made quite a few bucks with it. it was pretty fun. Still played 2k hrs as a wizard after they closed the AH.
But Games are becoming more money making machines which is not necessarily fun.
Here comes a new era of games, a lot of new stuff is going to come.
lot of bad stuff probably…

When NFTs had become a thing I immediately knew that it would only be a matter of time before they'd be abused as anti-consumer DRM. I would've been very happy if this just stayed as my unpopular opinion and not actually come to pass.

I too game, where it might be interesting to have nft's would probably be open source/ decentralised games created by communities where you could have smart nft's to look after your gear, vanity items or worlds.
But it would still be monetising something that traditionally wasn't.
I still don't understand what an NFT is, I guess its like a digital copyright….
Further more, we are creating bridges between the old modern world and new one and I don't know of any multinational companies that deserve to continue selling their same old shit using the same old rat race to slavery and just jump into the crypto seen to make some more billions in profit.

This is the Ready Player One universe for reals and injected with NFTs.

Imagine EvE Online NFTs, Jita IV was burned with lasers and player protest over pants. Now those pants could become a valuable collectable.

Interesting thoughts. I agree there will be growing pains, but I also think NFTs are here to stay, and they will be a permanent part of online gaming in the future.
