ABOUT THE ICRC
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We act in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
PURPOSE OF THE POST
Under the supervision of the communication coordinator, the operational communication officer contributes to designing, planning and implementing communication projects and activities including in support of the sub-delegation, represents the ICRC externally and builds acceptance and perception of ICRC among key stakeholders. Works in partnership with the Jordan red crescent communication dept. Monitors and analyses the working environment of ICRC and/or the movement in Jordan and the region.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Operational communication and community engagement:
Contributes to defining communication strategies/plans of action in line with internal objectives and priorities
With minimum supervision, implements relevant activities and develops tools, delivers training
Supports the communication officer in the Sub-delegation and the communication team in Amman also in taking photos, videos and interviews, story collection and supports field trips
Contributes to the annual PFR exercise, MFR, institutional and internal reporting within deadlines
2.Partnership with the JRCS:
Supports in the drafting of the annual partnership project document (including budget/plan of action) and follows up on its implementation with the support of communication coordinator
Coordinates with the Amman Cooperation team, updates them, and requests support when needed for follow up with JRCS Communication dept and/or JRCS HQ
Provides technical advice and support to the com/coop FO in SD
3. Environment Scanning (ES)
Monitors and measures the visibility of the ICRC, JRCS, the Movement in Jordan, south Syria regionally/globally and produces and produces a weekly ES report
Verifies and analyses the information collected from open sources in line with the operational priorities of the delegation, objectives of the communication dept and RSF
Identifies influencers (traditional & social media) in support of the delegation’s operational priorities
Proactively or upon request proposes themes and prepares in depth analysis on emerging trends and/or developments in Jordan and/or regionally
Supports big data analysis done by the Trends, Reputation, Analysis and Knowledge (TRAK) Unit and projects led by the Cairo RCC.
