(MENAFN – Saudi Press Agency) Rome, July 05, 2021, SPA — The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) highly valued the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s latest contribution of $60 million, provided by Riyadh-based King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), for helping the WFP to meet urgent food shortage of the most vulnerable and needy groups in Yemen.
In statement here today, WFP Executive Director David Beasley stressed that the humanitarian response to save lives in Yemen cannot be continued without this contribution, pointing out that it will contribute to filling critical gaps in providing life-saving food aid in the next few months.
Beasley expressed gratitude to KSrelief, Saudi Arabia’s relief arm, for this contribution, adding that it came at a time of great need, especially in light of the current difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The statement pointed out that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s contributions to support WFP’s response in Yemen amounted to $858 million since 2018, including $380 million in 2019, stressing that this helped the world food organization to expand its operations to reach 13 million people, leading to exciting results in preventing famine in Yemen.
