Everyone has a work family. Some family you love and some you don’t. We work 8 or more hours a day. Some days, that’s more than we are with our own families! What cultivates a good working environment? why is it important? Let’s take a look.
I write this in complete sadness as a coworker was killed in a car accident over the weekend. It made me reflect and want to share. Oh, how she will be missed on my amazing work family!
Employees in Work Families Know Each Other.
Do you know your coworkers? What are their kids’ names? Do they have allergies? What do they do on the weekends?
The more you know about a person, the easier it is to get along with them, and the more they truly become your work family. You will be able to ask if you see something troubling. You can come together for a gift for a new baby or to cheer up someone who’s family members have been hospitalized recently.
These small acts take only a few minutes, but go such a long way. Here are some other ways to combat pandemic stress!
Solicit Input and Provide Feedback
Communication among family relationships is a necessity. So why do we forget this at our jobs when we work? Find out where a person is coming from to get on the same page and move forward. Decisions can be made faster and more efficiently.
Is a Work Family bad?
There’s an article out there about a work family being the worst thing because it’s disappointing and is used to make you loyal to the company because employee turnaround is costly. I completely disagree!
If you owned a company, wouldn’t you want your employees to work in a solid enjoyable environment? You are with your coworkers often more than your home people. You have to have a sense of trust in order to find a fulfilling career. If you don’t, maybe you need to take a hard look at who you are and who you want to be. You never know when you won’t get the chance!
Work family is so important. Chat before a meeting or schedule a virtual lunch in pandemic times. People need each other now more than ever! Sometimes they don’t even realize how much!
