Hi

First, and repeating what I say in the video, I lost some footage, and did gave some wrong info at some point… got it corrected later though…
I did not wanted to just scrap the rest of the footage, nor hide my failures…
So, did my best to make something out of it…
Take that in consideration while watching and commenting!…

So, this one came to me due to the engine light being on… after a scan, two fault codes for intake and exhaust camshaft…
Again, and as usual, this came to me after someone else worked on it…
I did some mistakes along the way, but got there in the end…
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.

Hope you enjoy the video.

Like always, thank you for watching!

  1. I've see this before and some people are stupid and so is the owner for not putting a new timing belt kit when I remove a timing belt and the owner not going to charge it I tell them to take the car somewhere else

  2. Inlet phasers are different to exhaust phasers, they look physically different and have different part numbers.
Timing is done by fitting a plate to the other end of the camshaft to lock the camshafts.
Phaser locking tool sets the phasors to be in the recommended position.

  3. Did your scope your learning curve, it would have been off the charts I reckon 😂 Great detective work you should work for the police. Other ‘mechanics’ eh🙄 The customer will not realise the amount of effort you put into this one. At least it had some fuel 😆

  4. Hi. Love your movies. can you plese tell me from your experience. How is the 908 pro doing in 2022? I have opportunity to get new pro with 3 years free update or elite with 2 years update. Just wonder if is worth to spend on those older platforms or go for 909/919 series.

  5. That is so freaky. Had exactly the same fault on the same engine a few months ago. I did find the fault by scoping a good engine with the faulty one. The head gasket had been done and the firm that skimmed the head had broken the same tooth off – or so we thought. You did say that the customer had said initially nothing had been done to the engine before the fault had occurred – did I misunderstand?. I'm wondering now if the skimming firm didn't break the tooth off and this problem is a weak tooth manufacturing issue. The firm did totally deny they had broken anything. Interesting problem. You can bet we are not alone with this issue. On a side note, the actuators had obviously been messed with and as far as I can see this must have been for the same issue. Somebody has omitted info that should have been passed on regardless. Anyway, good fix 👍

  6. Life is all about learning Luis!! You got there that's all that counts, you can't be responsible other peoples blunders. Another great video from yourself Sir. Hope to see you in your new workshop soon! Thank You.

  7. Nothing to say. Yes you could have scoped the timing. It would have saved "some" time but the work would have been the same . What makes you a good diagnostician, and mechanic, is your ability to think things through. You are not a DIYer Luis. Looks like you are a master. I have seen a few cases where a tooth was broken of the cam reluctor, because of the same thing you said, but only once I've seen a shifted one. And that was even pretty obvious. Nothing compared to yours. Yes the scope is a fantastic tool. Sadly not all mechanics know how to use one. Great diagnose and repair Luis.
